In this tutorial, you'll see how to make your own personal dumps of games you own via wi-fi.

Things Needed
- A Nintendo DS
- A Flash Cart
- A MicroSD with your Cart's firmware
- A MicroSD Adapter
- A Wi-Fi Connection
- A FTP Server
- NDS Backup Tool Wifi
- Your PC's lAN IP Address

I've uploaded Small FTPd and NDS backup tool to make it easier for everyone. Download the pack from here and unzip it.

Before you start, create a folder where you would like to dump the NDS games to.
I've created one on my desktop so the address is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\NDS

Open up Smallftpd from the pack you just downloaded. Press the Settings Tab and select 'Users'

You'll notice currently, there are 0 users.

Press Add to create a New User.

Set a username and password. Remember this information!
In Directories, select add:

Leave Virtual Directory as /
The physical path should be the folder where you would like to dump the nds games. Then Press ok.

Under permissions, select Add. Leave Virtual Directory as /. In the permissions box, type LRW. This will give your DS full permissions to the FTP Server.

Your user configuration should look like this:

Save it.

Now back in smallftpd, click settings then advanced. Check the 'use local ip' box and press ok

Now for the last time in smallftpd, click settings then general. Set FTP Port to anything you'd like. I'd advise to advoid Port 80. Remember which port and Press ok. Once back into the main menu of smallftpd press the Play button in the lower left corner.

In the NDS_Backup_Tool folder that you downloaded, there should be a .ini file. Open that file with notepad, change the current data there to correspond with the information you just setup. Save the file.

Drop the .nds and .ini file in the NDS Backup tool folder into the root of your sd card.

Insert the sd card into the flash cart. With the flash cart inside your ds, load the DS Backup tool. If everything was configured correctly, you should have seen it connect to the FTP successfully.

You should be asked to remove the flash cart and insert the retail game that you want to backup. Remove the flash cart and insert the game. Press A then press R twice, then hit B and finally A to start dumping. Have patience dumping can take some time.

Approximate Times:

4MB: 3.5 minutes
8MB: 7 minutes
16MB: 13.5 minutes
32MB: 27 minutes
64MB: 54.5 minutes
128MB: 1 hour 49 minutes

Does this work with DSi, and does it work with my routers' WPA encryption? That WEP encrytpion had to go, after I saw how easy it was to hack it. So, since my DS can only WEP encrypted routers, only my DSi can access my router now.

NDS Backup Tool (FTPd) v0.11 is NOT compatable with DSi

I followed the guide, but when the backup program was running on the DS and I was told to put in the game that I was going to backup, a red message appaired, blinking, saying "Conecting to server". Local ip was showing along with my desired FTP port. When I compared the local ip showing up on my DS, which I asume was the adresse the DS was trying to connect to, it was not the same as on the computer running the FTP server. Any clues? I`ve tried ten times and I have followed the guide very carefully.

Is there any chance that this process will work for the DSi XL?
Also, is there a homebrew, etc. that will copy the original nds cart game data to a SDHC card on the DSi XL?
Or is the only way to copy the original game is to use a DS (without the "i") due to hardware and architecture designs?
Thanks.

I tried this but when I run the tool in my ds lite it says cannot connect check wifi settings.
I have followed the guide precisely (twice) with no luck.
At the beginning of the guide, under things needed, it says IP adress.
No where in the guide is a place to enter IP address.
Am I missing something?
Thanks

I cannot help you with the ip address, but for the network: is it secured with wpa? Homebrew and games can only use wep our non secured networks.

The three main, simple rules:
1. Don't ask for roms or say you did download one.
2. Advising on where to buy is ok, but never spam
3. Never post links, except to downloads or news sources
If you don't follow these rules, enjoy your ban

Hi,
Does this NDS BAckup Tool (wifi) v0.31 works on NDSi XL? After NDS Backup tool starts communication with my FTP server it prompts me to insert Game cartridge. When I inserted the one which works, I get a message "The card of Slot-1 connot be recognized. Please pull out once, and set it again.". Any help? Thanks.
